The Burgess Hill Annual Town Meeting 2023
21st May 2023 | By Peter Chapman
On Monday evening (May 22nd) The Burgess Hill Annual Town Meeting is taking place at Burgess Hill Academy on Station Road with a 7pm start time.
Usually the meeting is held in April, but due to the closeness of the local elections this year, the meeting was delayed to allow for a more constructive affair post-election.
The main agenda item is titled:
'Report On The Work And Activities Of Burgess Hill Town Council In 2022/3' and will feature updates on: • District Plan • Allotments • Park Centre • Beehive Project • St Johns Pavilion • Martlets Shopping Centre.
The Burgess Hill Academy plays host of the Annual Town Meeting this year
Open Forum?
The other part of the agenda is the open forum. It has been described as 'There will be an opportunity to ask questions on the reports and the work and activities of the Town Council' however, this is not what you should be restricted to talking about!
Here is what the annual town meeting is supposed to be:
The Annual Town Meeting is the public's meeting and is not actually a meeting of the Town Council.
The Town Council have the responsibility of organising the meeting, with the Mayor having the option to chair the meeting if they so wish.
What The Public Can Say
The biggest misconception is that the public can only speak if they wish to ask a question. Any member of the public is allowed to speak and can just share a point of view or make a statement if they wish.
On-site parking in available in the main car park accessed on the left as you come down the drive. Please don't park anywhere else on Academy grounds!
See you tomorrow night at 7pm - bring your friends and some popcorn.
Spread the word! The annual town meeting takes place tomorrow evening at 7pm
