NewRiver Retail Submit Latest Plans For The Martlets Shopping Centre, Burgess Hill
20th September 2019 | By Peter Chapman
NewRiver Retail have finally submitted their latest scheme for the Martlets Shopping Centre in Burgess Hill following two periods of public consultation in the Summer.
The retail property developer first achieved planning permission for the site in March 2016 but has revised their plans due to the 'changing retail environment'.
The latest plan sees all the residential dwellings now grouped together in one area - including an 11 storey apartment block which is taller than the St John's Church Spire.
The number of proposed residential units has increased from 142 to 170 yet the number of residential car parking spaces has been reduced from 120 to just 72.
A Travelodge hotel will now have 85 rooms, an increase from the original 63.
The revamped plans also sees the inclusion of a 16-lane Hollywood Bowl in the basement of the old Lidl along with a new Gym which will be sited in the row of shops from 'Adventure Avenue' though to the new chiropractor on Church Walk.
There will be 5 new retail units constructed at the centre, 4 of which will be located underneath the Cineworld 10 screen cinema which faces on to Waitrose car park. 2 existing units opposite the former St Peter and St James Charity shop will be refurbished.
Two new Cafés or restaurants will be installed opposite New Look and the impending new Library. A third eatarie will appear under the hotel, facing the extended public car park.
