27th May 2019 | By Peter Chapman
PureGym have submitted a planning application to Mid Sussex District Council in order to operate a gym 24 hous a day, 7 days in week in the former CarpetRight retail warehouse at the London Road Retail Park.
MSDC announced last week that they had purchased the freehold on London Road for £5 million and were in talks with a gym operator to move into the empty unit next to Halfords.
The applicant is seeking a change of use permission from Class A1 (retail) to Class D2 (gymnasium) and minor external alterations.
To increase space, PureGym are seeking to install a mezzanine floor, just like Halfords have nextdoor.
The proposed gym at London Road Retail Park will comprise of a main gym area, studio, free weights area, spin area and functional zone. In addition, changing facilities and showers will be provided, as well as a small seating area for the use of members, and staff facilities. In total, the gym will provide 1,117 sq. m of floorspace.
PureGym's potential arrival is expected to create 2 full-time and 12 part-time positions.
