Burgess Hill Branch Of Natwest Bank To Close
9th December 2017
By Peter Chapman
Natwest Bank in Burgess Hill is to close in May 2018 as parent company Royal Bank Of Scotland (RBS) have announced 197 branch closures across the country.
Over 680 jobs losses are expected in the nationwide cull. The bank is still 77% owned by the public.
An RBS spokesman claims the decision to close so many branches was made because a growing number of customers are now using online banking rather than high street branches.
He said: “More and more of our customers are choosing to do their everyday banking online or on mobile.
“Since 2014 the number of customers using our branches across the UK has fallen by 40 per cent and mobile transactions have increased by 73 per cent over the same period.
“Over 5 million customers now use our mobile banking app and one in five only bank with us digitally."
