Lidl Submit Amended 'Downsized' Plans For Their Move To The Gas Holder Site

The big relocation of Lidl to the site of the Gas Holder on Leylands Road is facing a reduction.
Work to demolish the Gas Holder on Leylands Road is well underway to make room for the arrival of Lidl on the site, but Lidl have now changed their minds on the size of the store they wish to build.
Amended plans have been submitted to Mid Sussex District Council with Lidl looking to reduce the sales area of the store by 22%. The first floor element has been removed, with office space to be located on the ground floor. The building's overal footprint will also be reduced by 23%.
The reason for this is that Lidl claim to have made changes to their 'store format' since the permission was granted.
It should be a routine approval for the amended plans, but it's a bit of a let down for shoppers hoping for a huge Lidl with a larger selection.
From Lidl's perspective, a smaller footprint means less rates to pay.
We'll update you when the council make a decision on the new plans.
Spread the word, Lidl's proposed new store will be smaller than planned
