Homes Left Without Water As Pipe Bursts In Mill Road
11th August 2014
By Peter Chapman
There was panic on the streets of Burgess Hill today as a mains pipe burst in Mill Road, leaving a vast number of homes in the town without water.
Mill Road, Grove Road, Keymer Parade, Nightingale Lane, Priory Road, Midfields Drive and Church Road were just some of the areas affected. Parts of Chanctonbury Road were completely without water with others suffering from low pressure.
The burst was reported at around 5:30am with South East Water expecting to take three to four hours with repairs. The news didn't go down well with residents.
Over on the Burgess Hill Uncovered Facebook page, Gail Rebecca Newton was not amused with the situation "3 to 4 hours?! (To get the water back on) I need to sterilise bottles etc for my baby! What a joke!"
And spare a thought for the BHU Police Helicopter correspondent Nina Dawes, she wrote:
"I haven't got any either. Have they indicated how long it'll be as I'm going for a run and will need a shower when I get back!" Those terrible first world problems! :-)
Sam Hoy sent us pictures from Mill Road at 5:30 this morning:
