By Peter Chapman
Burgess Hill Town Womens Football Club fell to 2-1 defeat to Hassocks on Thursday evening in the final of the Sussex Challenge Trophy.
The Hillians took the lead in the tenth minute with a brilliant move which finished with Jade Chapman heading home Jess Saunders' cross.
Hassocks equalised in the 31st minute when Kelly Rushworth's turn and shot found its way in at the far post which took goalkeeper Casey Dunford completely bysurprise as she'd taken up a position at the near post.
The winning goal for Hassocks came from a corner in the 71st minute which was met with a glancing header from Liz King on the edge of the 6 yard box which saw the ball somehow got past Hillians' defender Ellie Lawrence on the near post.
Hassocks rattled the woodwork on a few occasions during the second period and were good value for the win. Congratulations to them!
As for Burgess Hill, they took to twitter after the game to declare how proud they were despite the defeat....
Burgess Hill's Women return to cup action next weekend on Sunday 17th at Leylands Park where they'll host Ashford in the semi-final of the League Cup. 2pm kick-off. We'll be there!
